I am not a new teacher. I am wrapping up my 23rd year in the classroom. I mentor other teachers. I’m one of the “Momma Teachers”. When I was asked if I was interested in starting a new Computer Science Academy on my campus next year, I was overjoyed. I’ll let you in on a secret — I’m a geek. I love tech gadgets. Ok, those of you that know me are now rolling their eyes. That’s not really a secret.
But the idea of starting a brand new academy is a little scary. The last time I started from scratch was about 23 years ago when I was just starting as a teacher.
I need a mentor! I need a guide.
I have a tendency to get overly excited when I start a new project. I go overboard. I don’t want to dive into the deep end before I learn to swim. I don’t want to lose the kids while I am floundering.
What equipment do I need? What software do I need? What permissions will I need to discuss with the district IT department?
I am hoping to find someone willing to share their knowledge with me.
