From Coast to Coast

Today is October 2, 2014. It is 8:31 pm eastern time. I am exhausted. But I am also so energized I don’t know if I will sleep again tonight. What’s got me all worked up? My PLN, that’s what.

Last night was the #CEOct chat. It was intended to be a kickoff chat for Connected Educators Month.  It quickly became clear that we were connecting teachers from around the world. Sarah Thomas (@sarahdateechur) and Ashley Hurley (@ashleyhhurley) and I (@mathneil) were so excited. Ashley manned the Twitter feed, connecting with many of the 8 pm east coast chats. Sarah and I managed the Google Hangout On Air.

The connections were amazing. Almost immediately there was a new Voxer Chat created. People were sharing their stories. Every story was special and unique. I can’t wait to see how this month brings educators around the world together. As we approached the 9 pm eastern (8 pm central) hour, we had even more educators join us. The Twitter chatters were watching the GHOA and those of us on the hangout were reading the Twitter feed. There were shout outs and virtual waves back and forth. It was great fun and it was amazingly energizing. Educators from everywhere were sharing their stories. We even had a parent show up to tell us how important connected educators are.

As we “Talked and Tweeted” ourselves across the country, the stories continued to fuel the passions of educators everywhere. I am so glad I had a chance to connect with everyone. It was an amazing night. It ended as we reached midnight eastern time (9 pm pacific time). I can’t wait to see how we end the month.  Ladies, are you ready?
