Leaders and Followers

There are more followers in our classrooms than leaders. What are we doing to prepare them for their future? Are we teaching them how to choose who to follow?

This isn’t a political post. It has very little to do with today’s leaders or followers. This has everything to do with what is coming next. There are MILLIONS of future followers sitting in our classrooms right now. The things they learn with us will determine what they seek in the future leaders of this world.

Critical thinking skills will certainly come into play. Doing well on a state test will not. The soft skills that go untested are the very skills we must demand from our students in order for them to choose appropriate leaders.

As I prepare for each new year (calendar or school), I am reminded that I teach tomorrow’s leaders. But I also teach tomorrow’s followers. What are we doing for them?
